What is Axarcomedy?
Axarcomedy formed in early 2004 to provide comedic relief to the entertainmentally-repressed residents of the Axarquia, the eastern end of the Costa del Sol. Around here there's actually very little live entertainment of any kind and, apart from us, absolutely zero comedy. We want to change that.
Axarcomedy has recently spawned a new group in the north west of England. Click here for more information about the UK branch of Axarcomedy.
Where can I see Axarcomedy perform?
At the moment we are taking a break but we will start performing again around November. Each month
there will be an original comedy show in either Nerja or Competa. We may consider venturing farther afield if we can find the
right venue. If you know of somewhere that comfortably seats forty or more people, with enough room for our performers, in a town with a decent number of Brits, anywhere between Malaga and Motril, then let us know.
And hopefully soon there'll be shows from our new Axarcomedy UK group somewhere in or around Congleton.
What sort of comedy is it?
It can get a bit adult at times (actually it can get very adult at times) but there's probably nothing that wouldn't be allowed on telly after the 9pm watershed. If you're easily offended, genuinely enjoy "Last Of The Summer Wine" or are closely related to Steven Hawking, then you'll probably want to stay away. All we ask is that no under-16s are present.
Can I get a little taster of the show?
Of course. This web site includes photos of all our shows and videos of a few sketches and songs. Feel free to browse around it.
Why do you perform with scripts?
Producing a monthly show of brand new material means that there isn't enough time to do much in the way of rehearsal, especially as sometimes the sketches are written very close to the show itself. That's why we use scripts. The alternative would be to produce one or two rehearsed shows per year but since we are all itching either to write as much as possible or perform as often as possible then it wouldn't fit with our style. After a few moments, you'll stop noticing the scripts anyway.
Supporting local and internet writers...
We're not interested in regurgitating old comedy or telling jokes you've probably heard before. The purpose of the group is to write and perform original comedy so that when you come to a show we can guarantee that you'll see something you've never seen before. For that reason we need as many comedy writers as possible. To
that end, Axarcomedy runs Virtually Hilarious, an internet comedy writing group, where writers from all over the English-speaking world can send their sketches for inclusion in our show. In return for writing for us, we video the performance and make it available to the writer so that he or she can see how the audience reacted to the sketch, an opportunity new writers rarely get.
You can join Virtually Hilarious by clicking here.
Can I perform with you?
For the Nerja-based group the answer is yes, if you're male. Sorry, ladies, but at the moment the Axarcomedy performance team has plenty of
female performers but very few male performers. Contact me (details below) if you're interested.
For the UK-based group the answer is absolutely! We're looking for performers, both male and female, of
any age. If you're interested, contact Dave Bowman on 0771 7711991.
How can I contact you?
You can call me, Steven, the show's producer, on +34 695878766 or e-mail me at steven@axarcomedy.com.
For issues related specifically to the UK branch of Axarcomedy, contact Dave Bowman on 0771 7711991 or e-mail him
at jazzspliff@yahoo.co.uk.
It's not fair! There's no comedy near me...
Then set up your own group with the help of Axarcomedy. We're currently preparing some How-To pages on
this very topic based on our own experiences. If you want to bring comedy to your local area, and make free use of
Axarcomedy's pool of sketch and parody song material, please get in touch.
Anything else?
Yes, come and see us. You'll have fun. But if you have more questions read our Axarcomedy Frequently Asked Questions.
